Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The substance (E)-1-(2-chloro-1,3-thiazol-5-ylmethyl)-3-methyl-2-nitroguanidine was shown to be hydrolytically stable at 50 °C and pH 4, 5 and 7 but slowly degraded at pH 9. By using different temperatures (50°C, 62°C and 74°C), it was possible to show that the half-life of the test substance at pH 9 and 20°C would be ca 3.8 years. Transformation products were produced at pH 9 from the test substance, but they were only produced at artificially high temperatures. At the temperature of environmental concern (20°C), these products would not be expected to be produced in significant amounts. Thus, hydrolysis is not a route of degradation under environmental conditions (pH 4-9, 20°C).

However, sunlight can be considered as the major abiotic degradation pathway in air, in the aqueous environment and in soil. In air the photolytical half-life of the substance was estimated to 1.5 hours, based on modelling. In water the photolytical half-life was found to range from 25.0 to 27.8 hours in natural water and to be 3.3 hours in sterile aqueous buffer solution at pH 7. In soil a half-life of 8.2 days in artificial sunlight was recorded for the target substance.
