Description of key information

Vapour pressure < 100 Pa or 0.7 mmHg, OECD 104, EU Method A.4, Dujardin 1996

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The vapour pressure of the test material was investigated in the key study by Dujardin (1996). It was performed under GLP conditions and in accordance with the standardised guidelines OECD 104, EU Method A.4 and the requirements of standard AFNOR NF T 20-048. Based on the principles for assessing data quality defined by Klimisch et al. (1997), this study was assigned a reliability score of 1.

The process used was the static method; at thermodynamic equilibrium, the vapour pressure was established in a closed system at two specified temperatures, 22.56 and 40.74 °C. Three replicates were run per temperature, and distilled water was used as a reference substance. The vapour pressure was then estimated at 20 °C using regression line analysis.

The measured results led to vapour pressures very close to the threshold of detection of this method (0.7 mmHg or 100 Pa). At 22.56 °C the average measured vapour pressure was 0.42 mmHg and at 40.74 °C it was 2.14 mmHg.

Based on the measured data, the vapour pressure at 20 °C was estimated to be 0.33 mmHg or 44 Pa. This value is below the limits of detection for this method, and therefore the vapour pressure can be said to be < 0.7 mmHg or 100 Pa.
