Description of key information

The surface tension of the substance was found tobe 72.9 mN/m at 6.4 mg/L and 20 °C in pure water.

With a surface tension higher than 60 mN/m, the substance is regarded as a non-surface-active material.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
72.9
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
6.4

Additional information

Two GLP studies were conducted. Both determined the surface tension of the test substance to be in the same range.

One study was conducted in accordance with method DIN53914 / Testing of sufactants - Determination of surface tension, using the OECD harmonized ring method resulted the surface tension of the substance to be 68.7 mN/m at 20 °C and a concentration of 0.5 % of the substance and 68.2 mN/m at 20 °C and a concentration of 2.0 % of the substance.

Another one was conducted in accordance with the EU directive 91 /414, EEC method A5.1.6.1, also using the OECD harmonized ring method. This one determined the surface tension of an aqueous preparation of the test item (6.4 mg/l ( = 90% of the saturationsolubility of the substance in water)) at 20 °C to be 72.9 mN/m. With a surface tension higher than 60 mN/m, the substance is regarded as a non-surface-active material. This result was chosen as key value for the surface tension
