TEST MEDIUM
Exponentially growing batch cultures of algae were exposed to a serial dilution of the test substance. The test was incubated on a shaking table under constant temperature and light.

EFFECT PARAMETERS MEASURED:
The cell densities were determined by fluoremetric measurement after 24, 48, and 72 hours of exposure. The inhibition of growth at each test concentration was determined as the average growth rate in per cent of the control growth rate.

The concentrations, which inhibited the growth rate 10 and 50%, were calculated by use of a computer program ‘Toxedo’ (VKI 1992). The highest concentration at which no significant effect was observed (No Observed Effect Concentration, NOEC), was determined by Dunnett’s procedure (US-EPA 1989).

Description of key information

Testing to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria was considered not necessary as alternatives to testing were available and they demonstrated to be sufficient to fulfil the requirement of Annex VII 9.1.2 on Growth inhibition study aquatic plants. Therefore, the general rules for adaption 1.2, 1,3 and 1.5 of Annex XI of REACH regulation were applied. The results obtained from QSARs models indicated the absence of hazardous to the aquatic environment and the testing with the registered substance was considered not reasonable. Furthermore, read across data from a similar substance was used as supporting information.

The following data has been taken into account for the hazard assessment:

-72h EC50: 303 mg/L (ECOSAR v1.11)

-72h EC50: 109.12 mg/L (Danish QSAR Database)

-72h EC50: 91 mg/l: NOEC: 20 mg/L: EC10: 31 mg/L (read across)
