Conclusions:
The test item, Monalazone disodium was observed to change its colour from white to light brown at 192ºC. The test item was observed to decompose at 242ºC and turns in to a dark brown mass. Hence, it is concluded that the test item decomposes before melting.
Executive summary:

The determination of melting point of the test item, Monalazone disodium was carried out in accordance with OECD 102 and OPPTS 830.7200.

The melting point of the test item was determined using Buchi Melting pointM-565system. The instrument was calibrated using melting point standards 4-nitrotoluene and potassium nitrate.

The determined mean melting point of standard 4-nitrotoluene was 52.7°C (325.85 K) as against the declared melting point of 52.3°C. The determined mean melting point of standard potassium nitrate was336.1°C (609.25 K) as against the declared melting point of334.7°C.

The test item, Monalazone disodium was observed to change its colour from white to light brown at 192ºC. The test item was observed to have decomposed at 242ºC and turns in to a dark brown mass. Hence, it is concluded that the test item decomposes before melting.

Description of key information

The test item decomposes before melting.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
248.5 °C
