Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No experimental data on activated sludge respiration inhibition are available and testing, required in Annex VIII column 2, 9.1.4., has been waived in accordance with column 2.

The effects of the readily biodegradable submission item Dimethyl itaconate (CAS 617-52-7) to aquatic microorganisms were measured in the toxicity control of a GLP-compliant study (Eisner 2011, Harlan Laboratories Report no. D32045) for ready biodegradability in a GLP-compliant “28 -Day DOC Die-Away Test”. The experiment is reported in the respective section and was considered valid, conclusive and „reliable without restrictions“, i.e. “Klimisch 1” according to the scale of Klimisch et al. (1997).

In the toxicity control, containing the test item, the reference item sodium benzoate and activated sludge (inoculum), the initial DOC decreased by 96 % within 14 days of exposure. Thus, according to the test guidelines the test item was not inhibitory to activated sludge at the tested concentration of 55 mg/L because degradation was >35 % within 14 days.

In conclusion the NOEC/EC10 of the submission item is considered > 55 mg/L.
