Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
As Dimethyl itaconate (CAS 617-52-7) was found in landfill leachate secondary effluent and its removal by laboratory simulation of standard flocculation treatment was measured using GC-MS. As the objective of the study was to quantify only the removal percentage, the actual concentration of Dimethyl itaconate was not determined and only the relative "concentration" - unit of 193819 "Ion peak areas" is given in the samples before treatment.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of study / information:
Removal from landfill leachate secondary effluent by PMAS (Poly-aluminium(III)-magnesium(II)-sulphate) flocculation

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
From leachate of contaminated sites 100 % removable using Poly-aluminium(III)-magnesium(II)-sulphate, a common flocculation agent
Executive summary:

Dimethyl itaconate (CAS 617-52-7) was detected in landfill leachate secondary effluent (Sang 2008), from which is was found 100 % removable using Poly-aluminium(III)-magnesium(II)-sulphate, a common flocculation agent. However this data deal on remediation of contaminated sites they point out an effective method for removal of Dimethyl itaconate from any effluent including industrial waste water treatment plants.
