Biodegradation in water: screening tests
Administrative data
- Endpoint:
- biodegradation in water: ready biodegradability
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Reliability:
- 2 (reliable with restrictions)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- other: The current study was conducted according the Guideline OECD 301D under GLP. This study is not the most suitable study due to the low water solubility
- Justification for type of information:
- The performed OECD 301D (closed bottle) is not the most suitable method for this substance as the water solubility is very low. The concentrations used in the study were above the water solubility of the substance. During the study no agitation was used to keep the chemical dispersed, which could lead a lower bioavailability for the bacteria in the inoculum. Based on the similarity of the structure of both substance it would be expected that liquid AKD would also be readily biodegradable. In particular, the double bond in the chain could lead to a faster break down of the structure.
A new readily biodegradation study (OECD 301B) will be performed to confirm the readily biodegradability of the substance.
