Description of key information

The octanol-water partition coefficient is estimated by calculations (Epi SuiteTM caculation by KOWWINTM) and the interpretation of this high Kow

value is done with a peer reviewed publication

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

There are inherent difficulties in testing the bioaccumulation of poorly soluble substances. Direct and indirect exposure of the aquatic compartment is limited, and the water phase may not be the primary route of exposure for a substance with very low solubility. The octanol-water partition coefficient is therefore estimated by calculations (Epi Suite caculation by KOWWIN and UGA SPARC) Log Kow > 11)

The predicted log Kow value of Liquid AKD initially indicates that Liquid AKD has the potential to bioaccumulate. The relationship between high log Kow values and bioaccumulation has been investigated, demonstrating that at log Kow values >6 the risk for bioaccumulation declines (Meylan, WM et al, 1999, Env Tox Chem vol 18, no 4, pp 664-672). With a log Kow value of >11, Liquid AKD should therefore not be considered as bioaccumulative.
