Additional information

Skin irritation/corrosion:

No information is available on 2,5-xylenol regarding skin irritation/corrosion. 2,5 -xylenol is classified as corrosive to skin and eye under Annex VI of the CLP regulation.

Information on skin irritation properties of 3,5 -xylenol ist contradictory. An in vivo study performed with 3,5 -xylenol shows no skin irritation potential, whereas studies on other xylenol and cresol isomers clearly show a highly irritating property (ECHA disseminated dossier, CAS: 1300 -71 -6).

Eye irritation:

No information is available on 2,5-xylenol regarding eye irritation. 2,5-xylenol is classified as corrosive to skin and eye under Annex VI of the CLP regulation.

3,5-Xylenol was found to be highly irritating to the rabbit's eye when tested in New Zealand white rabbits (ECHA disseminated dossier, CAS: 1300 -71 -6).

Justification for classification or non-classification

2,5 -xylenol is classified as corrosive to skin and eye under Annex VI of the CLP regulation and therefore H314 (causes severe skin burns and eye damage) applies.
