Reference
Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
see 'Principles of methods if other than guideline'
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The test design differs from the Guideline because of the nature of the test item and its solving behaviour (see 'Details on methods').
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
flask method
Water solubility:
>= 292 g/L
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Temp.:
20 °C
Remarks on result:
other: no pH could be measured, see 'Details on results'
Details on results:
The determination of the pH value could not be carried out due to the characteristics of the test solution. The high viscosity and colouring of the test solutions did not enable measurements using a pH electrode or pH strips.

The relative standard deviation between the single determinations is < 15 %.

Conclusions:
The water solubility of Special Brilliant Blue FFR at 20 °C is determined to be at least 292 g/L.
Executive summary:

The water solubility of the test item Special Brilliant Blue FFR in demineralized water could be determined with deviations from OECD 105 and OPPTS 830.7840 due to its solving characteristics.

The test item was dissolved in demineralized water until the limit of the used stirrer was about to be reached. The complete solvation was checked with a light microscope.

The concentration of this highly viscous test solution was determined by HPLC-UV. Additionally the concentration was calculated mathematically with the weighed masses of the test item and solvent (demin. water) in three ways. In one approach the density of the test solution was determined and also used.

The water solubility of Special Brilliant Blue FFR at 20 °C is determined to be at least 292 g/L.
