The solid sample was accurately weighed into a 20 mL pycnometer and by displacement of the solvent (n-heptane), its equivalent volume was determined. Two tests with different amounts of the test item were performed to determine the relative density D420 at a temperature of 20 °C ± 0.01 °C. Table 5 compiles the results.

The mean density of the test item at 20 °C is 1.297225 g/cm³. The relative density D420 is calculated by dividing the density of the test item by the density of water at 4 °C (1.297257 g/cm³).
