Link to relevant study record(s)
- Endpoint:
- oxidising liquids
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test O.2 (Test for oxidizing liquids)
- GLP compliance:
- yes (incl. QA statement)
- Other quality assurance:
- other: SOP-LA-211
- Remarks:
- Oxidizing properties of liquids
- Contact with:
- powdered cellulose
- Sample tested:
- test mixture 1:1
- Parameter:
- mean pressure rise time
- Remarks on result:
- maximum pressure of 2070 kPa not reached
- Sample tested:
- reference mixture with 65% nitric acid + cellulose (1:1 ratio)
- Parameter:
- mean pressure rise time
- Result:
- 2.58 s
- Interpretation of results:
- GHS criteria not met
- Conclusions:
- The test item has no oxidizing properties.
- Executive summary:
The oxidizing properties of the test item Hydrogen [4-[[4-diethylamino)phenyl][4-[ethyl[(3-sulphonatobenzyl)amino]-o-tolyl]methylene]-3-methylcylohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene](ethyl)3-sulphonatobenzyl)ammonium, sodium salt was investigated according to UN Manual of Tests and Criteria O.2.
Since, the pressures of 690 kPa and 2,070 kPa could not be reached, the pressure rise time for the test item is greater than the mean pressure rise time for the reference item nitric acid 65 % (2.58 s).
According to the results of the test on oxidizing properties of liquids, the test item is classified as follows:
UN Transport Regulation: The test item does not have to be classified as oxidizing substance in division 5.1 according to the UN Transport Regulation.
GHS (CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008: Annex 1: 2.13): The test item does not have to be classified as oxidizing liquid according to GHS or CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1.
Reference
Table 5 summarizes the results of the 1:1 mixture of test item with cellulose. The corresponding time pressure curves are shown in Figure 2.
Test 1 | Test 2 | Test 3 | Test 4 | Test 5 | Mean | Tolerance | ||
Time [s] at 690 kPa | 39.44 | 34.16 | 34.74 | - | - | 36.11 | Minimum | Maximum |
Time [s] at 2,070 kPa | - | - | - | - | - | - | -30% | +30% |
Time for pressure rise [s] | - | - | - | - | - | - | - | - |
Since the pressure of 690 kPa could not be reached in two of five tests, and also not the pressure of 2,070 kPa in five tests, no pressure rise time can be presented for the test item.
Description of key information
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Oxidising properties:

Additional information
Justification for classification or non-classification
According to the results of the test on oxidizing properties of liquids, the test item is classified as follows:
UN Transport Regulation: The test item does not have to be classified as oxidizing substance in division 5.1 according to the UN Transport Regulation.
GHS (CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008: Annex 1: 2.13): The test item does not have to be classified as oxidizing liquid according to GHS or CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1.
