Description of key information

The surface tension of THPS 75% in aqueous solution (Tolcide PS 75) was performed according to a scientifically valid method, the ring test method, using a surface and interfacial torsion balance. The surface tension of neat Tolcide PS 75 (THPS 75%) at 20°C was found to be 75.7 Dynes. cm-1, or 75.7 mN/m.
On the demand of the Competent Authorities, a new GLP test was performed to measure the surface tension of dry active substance
The surface tension of the dry active substance THPS 100% was measured on an aqueous solution at 1g/L according to standard guidelines under GLP using the ring method. The mean surface tension of the test item at 1% m/v in demineralized water was found at 68.6±0.5 mN/m.
Based on these values,THPS 75% in aqueous solution (Tolcide PS 75) and THPS dry active substance (THPS 100%) are not considered as surface-actives.
For Chemical safety assessment, the value at the highest concentration on THPS dry active substance is choosen.

Additional information

The surface tension of THPS 75% in aqueous solution (Tolcide PS 75) was performed according to a scientifically valid method, the ring test method, using a surface and interfacial torsion balance.

The value indicated by the index point at the moment when the platinium ring parts from the liquid, is the surface tension of the liquid.

The surface tension of neat Tolcide PS 75 (THPS 75%) at 20°C was found to be 75.7 Dynes. cm-1, or 75.7 mN/m.

On the demand of the Competent Authorities, a new GLP test was performed to measure the surface tension of the dry active substance THPS 100%.

The surface tension of an aqueous solution (1g/L) in demineralised water was measured according to EC A5 (2008) and OECD No. 115 (1995) guidelines under GLP using the ring method. Several measurements were made at various times at 20°C. The reading noted on the apparatus was corrected by multiplication with the calibration factor of the apparatus.

The mean surface tension of the test item at 1% m/v in demineralized water was found at68.6±0.5 mN/m (corrected value).

Based on these values,THPS 75% in aqueous solution (Tolcide PS 75) and THPS dry active substance (THPS 100%) are not considered as surface-actives.

For Chemical safety assessment, the value at the highest concentration on THPS dry active substance is choosen.
