Description of key information

A valid and guideline conforme oral toxicity study on rats was conducted with tetraethylammonium perfluorobutanesulfonate

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Acute toxicity: via oral route

Endpoint conclusion
Dose descriptor:
discriminating dose
Value:
2 000 mg/kg bw

Additional information

In an acute oral toxicity study an LD50 > 2000 mg/kg bw was found. None of the animals died due to the treatment.

Acute oral and dermal toxicity studies with potassium perfluorobutane sulfonate (LD50’s >2000 mg PFBS/kg bw) were cited in the Existing Chemical Hazard Assessment Report by the Australian Government, Department of Health and Ageing, NICNAS, November 2005.

Justification for classification or non-classification

A LD50 > 2000 mg/kg bw in the oral and dermal toxicity study was found. In the EU a classification is therefore not justified.
