Tetrapropenyl succinic anhydride (TPSA) was not readily soluble in water. Solubility in water was estimated in several studies at one laboratory by visual observation of the cloudiness of the solution. In an n-octanol:water partition coefficient study, the concentration of TPSA which was soluble in an aqueous buffer of pH 7 was 20 mg/L after 3 minutes. This was verified in an analytical GC/MS method of extraction into hexane. In a hydrolysis study using aqueous buffers of pH 4, 7 and 9, the solubility was approximately 10 mg/L after 5 minutes. The substance was found to rapidly hydrolyze, with a half-life at 25 °C at pH 7 of 22 minutes. At 10 -20 mg/L, TPSA is categorized as "slightly soluble" in water.
