Description of key information

Pergafast 425 was not toxic to wastewater bacteria (activated sludge) at 1000 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The effects of Pergafast 425 on the respiration rate of activated sludge was assessed by performing an Activated Sludge Respiration Inhibition Test according to OECD 209 guideline and GLP. The study was performed with the nominal concentrations of 10, 100 (in single replicates) and 1000 mg/L (in triplicate). The mean respiration rate in the control was 32 mg/g.h with a standard deviation of 1.7 mg O2/g.h. The coefficient of variation of oxygen uptake in control replicates was 5%. At 10, 100 and 1000 mg/L, respectively, the inhibition percentage of the respiratory rates were -17, -12 and -10 % (-10% for 1000 mg/L represents the mean value). Pergafast 425 has no statistically significant effect on the respiration of activated sludge at any of the concentration tested. The NOEC for Pergafast 425 was determined to be ≥1000 mg/L The EC50 value was > 1000 mg/L. Since the study met all the validity criteria the study was considered to be reliable without restrictions.
