Description of key information

Under the conditions of the present study with Raphidocelis subcapitata, no statistically significant inhibition of growth rate was recorded at any of the concentrations of Pergafast 425 tested. The 72h-EC10, EC20 and EC50 values for inhibition of growth rate (ERCx) were beyond the range of concentrations tested, i.e. exceeded a time weighted average concentration of 50 µg/L.

Additional information

An 72 hour toxicity study with freshwater algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) was conducted according to OECD guideline 201 and GLP prnciples. In addition, procedures were based on the test methods described in the OECD series on testing and assessment number 23. Algae were exposed to solutions containing 10, 18, 32, 56 and 100% of the SS, prepared at a loading rate of 100 mg/L. Samples taken from test solutions containing 32 and 100% of the SS were analysed. The measured concentrations were 18 and 58 µg/L at the start of the test, respectively. After 24 hours of exposure, the concentrations were at 91 and 98% of the initially measured values. The concentrations decreased during the last 48 hours of exposure, i.e. were at 45 and 66% relative to initial at the end of the test. The TWA concentration in the SS was calculated to be 50 µg/L. No significant differences were recorded between the values for growth rate at any of the test concentrations when compared to the control group. The 72h-EC10, EC20 and EC50 values for inhibition of growth rate (ERCx) were beyond the range of concentrations tested, i.e. exceeded a time weighted average concentration of 50 µg/L. The 72h-NOEC for growth rate was 50 µg/L, being considered as the maximum solubility of the test item in test medium. The study met the acceptability criteria, and is considered to be valid.
