Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Ecotoxicological information

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

Currently viewing:

Administrative data

Endpoint:
short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
Type of information:
other: Bibliographic source
Adequacy of study:
weight of evidence
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study

Reference Type:

Title:
Effects of antimony on aquatic organisms (Larva and embryo of Oryzias latipes, Moina macrocopa, Simocephalus mixtus, and Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata)
Author:
Sun-Hwa Nam, Chang-Yong Yang, Youn-Joo An
Year:
2009
Bibliographic source:
Department of Environmental Science, Konkuk University, 1 Hwayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul 143-701, Republic of Korea

Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 202 (Daphnia sp. Acute Immobilisation Test)
GLP compliance:
not specified

Test material

Constituent 1
Reference substance name:
Reference substance 001
Cas Number:
28300-74-5
Molecular formula:
C8H4K2O12Sb2 ∙ 3H2O
Details on test material:
Trihydrate salt.

Sampling and analysis

Analytical monitoring:
not specified
Details on sampling:
S. mixtus was collected from the farm pond in Namyangju city, Korea.

Test solutions

Vehicle:
no
Details on test solutions:
ATP>= 99.9% and used without further purification. Stock solution of APT was prepared in distilled water. Stock solution was diluted to obtain
suitable concentrations of APT in dechlorinated tap water, embryo rearing solution, moderately hard water (MHW) medium of USEPA
(2002), and algal medium for fish, fertilized eggs, planktonic crustacea, and green algae, respectively.

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
other: Simocephalus mixtus

Study design

Test type:
not specified
Water media type:
freshwater
Limit test:
yes
Total exposure duration:
24 h
Remarks on exposure duration:
the 48 h-LC50 value was not calculated in the present study. S. mixtus seems to be vulnerable to starvation, and exposure duration less than 48 h may be appropiate for the acute toxicity test.

Test conditions

Hardness:
moderately hard water (MHW)
Test temperature:
at 21 and 24 ºC
Details on test conditions:
Ten milliliters of MHW medium was placed in 35-mL flat-bottomed glass vial. Each test unit contained five neonates (less than 24 h), and test was done with three replicates. Toxicity endpoint selected for S. mixtus was heart beating under microscope because this species tends to stay at the surface of test unit and its movement is not active enough to measure the conventional immobilization.
Reference substance (positive control):
no
