Short-term toxicity studies with fish (Brachydanio rerio), invertebrates (daphnia magna) and algae (Selenastrum capricornutum) have been undertaken (ARC Seibersdorf research GmbH on behalf of H.C. Starck GmbH, 2005). All studies were carried out to internationally accepted guidelines and to GLP.

The 96 hr LC50 for fish was found to be >100 mg/L (based on the loading rate of the test substance).

The 48 hr EC50 for daphnia was found to be >100 mg/L (based on the loading rate of the test substance).

The 72 hr NOEC and 72 hr EC50 for algal growth inhibition of Selenastrum capricornutum was >=111 mg/mL.

An activated sludge respiration inhibition test was undertaken according to international guidelines and to GLP. Silicon Nitride did not inhibit respiration of the activated sludge and the EC20, EC50 and EC80 was >300 mg/L.
