Description of key information

The 48 hr EC50 for daphnia magna was found to be >100 mg/L. The NOEC was >=100 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

An acute toxicity study for Daphnia magna was carried out to EC guideline C.2 and in accordance with GLP (ARC Seibersdorf research GmBH, on behalf of H.C. Starck GmBH, 2005). A 48 hr static limit test was carried out for Daphnia magna. The solubility of Slilicon Nitride in water is very low. Therefore an aqueous extract (loading rate nominal 100 mg/L in water) was prepared to achieve a dissolved test substance concentration as high as possible. After stirring for approximately 24 hours and subsequent filtration the filtrate was used as the test medium. The test animals were neonates of Daphnia magna, not more than 24 hours old.

Results were as follows:

EC50 24 h & 48 h: >100 mg/L

NOEC ≥ 100 mg/L
