According to ANNEX VIII of REACH regulation n. 1907/2006, the study can be waived if the substance is highly insoluble in water. In the water solubility test performed most of test item remained undissolved adding a total of 100 mL of water, therefore it was supposed a solubility lower than 1 g/L.

In addition, the EPIWIN model predicts that succinate salts are stable to hydrolysis in water with half - lives estimated at several years. The dimethylbutyl ester is estimated to hydrolyse more slowly in water than the other sulfosuccinates (2 -ethylhexyl and cyclohexyl). Since all three are esters, hydrolysis to sodium sulfo succinic acid and the corresponding alcohols could occur under strongly acid or basic conditions, especially at elevated temperatures. The commercial products have long been commonly sold as aqueous solutions, providing practical evidence to the stability of sulphosuccinate in water under neutral, ambient conditions. Lanoline derivative is bigger than the three evaluated esters and his half- life can be predicted even slower than the evaluated ones.
