Additional information

Sulfosuccinate of Lanolin Alcohol was tested for flammability by EU method A.10 (solid) of the Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008.

Due to the conformation of the test item (sticky blocks), it was not possible to reduce the test item in a powder to perform the test.

A preliminary test was performed in duplicate. From the obtained experimental data it can be concluded that the Sulfosuccinate of Lanolin Alcohol sample is a not highly flammable substance. After the observation of the sample in the two preliminary tests, no further testing was required.

The flammability in contact with water can also be waived basing on the solid state of the substance, the type of the substance (the vast majority of substances do not ignite or liberate flammable gases on contact with water) and the experience on handling and use (qualitative assessment).

The substance is diluted in water in its commercial form.

Testing on pyrophoric properties of solids and liquids can be also waived based on the consideration of the structure and experience in handling and use (the vast majority of substances do not display pyrophoric properties) (qualitative assessment).

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance Sulfosuccinate of Lanolin Alcohol is not classified as flammable because it doesn't meet the classification criteria of the CLP regulation n. 1272/2008: "Powdered, granular or pasty substances or mixtures (except powders of metals or metal alloys) shall be classified as readily combustible solids when the time of burning of one or more of the test runs, performed in accordance with the test method described in Part III, sub-section 33.2.1, of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, is less than 45 seconds or the rate of burning is more than 2,2 mm/s".

Since the test item did not propagate combustion, no further testing was required. From the obtained experimental data it can be concluded that the Sulfosuccinate of Lanolin Alcohol is a not highly flammable substance. After the observation of the sample in the two preliminary tests, no further testing was required.
