Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance is a liquid. Therefore the flammability of liquids was classified on basis of the flashpoint of 212.5 °C (Chapter 4.11).

In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the study on flammability in contact with water does not need to be conducted as the substance contains no metals or metalloids and there-fore will not release flammable gases in contact with water.

In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, a study does not need to be conducted as it is scientifically unjustified. Based on experience during handling and use, no pyrophoric properties were observed and the structure does not give a reference to pyrophoric properties.

This classification is supported by the classification of 2,4-MDI (CAS 5873-54-1) which is the main component of the substance with the lowest molecular weight and the highest vapour pressure. For this reason it represents the worst case

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

2,4'-MDI (CAS 5873-54-1), which is the main component with the lowest molecular weight and the highest vapour pressure, was found to be not highly flammable, not pyrophoric, and to have non-hazardous flammability in contact with water. The “read across” classification is justified as the result represents the worst case.
