Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

According to the REACH Annexes VII and VIII an assessment of skin irritation or skin corrosion does not need to be conducted as the substance is very toxic in contact with skin according to the criteria outlined in Annex VI to 67/548/EEC as well as classified into category 1 for acute dermal toxicity according to the criteria in Annex I of the CLP regulation (EC) 1272/2008.

Testing for eye irritation according to OECD 405 is scientifically unjustified. In an attempt to test for eye irritation 6 out of 6 tested rabbits died within 11 minutes after instillation of the test substance. Thus, appropriate additional information on the label will be provided by the EUH 070 and further testing for eye damage is considered inappropriate.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Testing for skin corrosion/irritation and serious eye damage/eye irritation is scientifically unjustified because of the high toxicity of

2 -amino-2,3 -dimethylbutanenitril. As a consequence classification is not warranted accorrding to the criteria outlined in both, 67/548/EEC and the CLP regulation (EC) 1272/2008..
