Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

An activated sludge respiration inhibition test was performed according to OECD 209. The test showed that MMDS was not toxic to waste water (activated sludge) bacteria, without or with pH adjustment to 7.5 ± 0.5, at or below a loading rate of 100 mg/l (NOEC).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
290 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
100 mg/L

Additional information

No statistically significant inhibition of the respiration rate of the sludge was recorded in the final test, without or with pH adjustment to 7.5 ± 0.5, at or below a loading rate of 100 mg MMDS / litre. At higher loading rates the inhibitory effect of MMDS on aerobic waste water (activated sludge) bacteria increased with increasing loading rate, ranging from 43% inhibition at 320 mg/l to 99% at 1000 mg/l in the test series without pH adjustment and ranging from 42% inhibition at 320 mg/l to 71% at 1000 mg/l in the test series with pH adjustment to 7.5 ± 0.5 (average values). Thus, the inhibition of the respiration rate was mainly caused by the intrinsic toxicity of MMDS instead of the effect of pH.
