Results and discussion

Flammable solids
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Burning time:
> 4 min

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
Preliminary screening test was performed prior to burning rate test for determination of flammability of test item. The test item was formed into an unbroken powder train, about 250 mm long using a mould and the pile of test item was ignited in fume hood. A hot flame from a gas burner was applied
to one end of the powdered train for 2 minutes. The test item did not ignite and started melting after applying flame for 2 minutes. The test item did not ignite and propagate combustion along 200 mm of powder train within 4 minutes. Hence the test item was not considered as highly flammable.
As the test item was found to be non flammable in preliminary test the burning rate test was not performed. Based on the results obtained from the study, 1-Benzyl-5-phenylbarbituric acid (BPBA) is considered as non flammable.
Executive summary:

Preliminary screening test was performed prior to burning rate test for determination of flammability of test item. The test item was formed into an unbroken powder train, about 250 mm long using a mould and the pile of test item was ignited in fume hood. A hot flame from a gas burner was applied to one end of the powdered train for 2 minutes.
