Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Based on the available data on its physical and chemical properties, tangled multi-walled carbon nanotubes (TMWCNTs) are reported to be an inorganic solid (powder of carbon nanotubes, presented as agglomerate grains) with an agglomerate density of 0.041 -0.153 g/cm3 and a true density of 2.1 - 2.3 g/cm3 at 20°C. It is considered as not soluble in water.

TMWCNTs have a specific surface area of 180 - 283 m2/g.

The substance is made of tightly bound agglomerates constituted with entangled multi-walls carbon nanotubes. These agglomerates can be spherical, ovoid or with an irregular shape.

The particle size distribution of these agglomerates indicates a median diameter (D50) of 70 - 790 µm. The tubes within the TMWCNTs agglomerates can be described as thin, short and tangled. Specifically, they display an outer tube diameter of 4 - 30 nm.

Besides, TMWCNTs have been shown to be non flammable and to not flame spontaneously up to 400°C. Based on its chemical structure, TMWCNTs are not expected to be explosive nor to have oxidising properties.
