Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A Ready Biodegradability Test has been carried out according to OECD TG 301 D (Closed Bottle Test), in spite the fact that it is not requested for inorganic substances, according to Reach regulation Annex VII, 9.2.1.1. provisions.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The substance is inorganic that is to say it does not include carbon - hydrogen bonds. Therefore no oxidation by micro-organisms can be measured by the standard methods for (ready) biodegradation, based on oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide evolution, or dissolved organic carbon decay.

Indeed, no significant oxygen consumption has been observed in the CBT that was carried out. Besides, this study shows also that biodegradation of reference substance is not inhibited by the presence of the MWCNTs.

This endpoint, as others aiming to describe the biodegradation of substances in waters, sediment or soil are not relevant for such an inorganic material.
