log POWwas calculated from the capacity factor as follows:

log POW= (log k + 0.8447) / 0.3557

Result

As peak 2 showed a relative area < 5 %, it was considered as minor peak.

Although area is not necessarily correlated to absolute concentration if a UV detector is used, it is assumed that the test item consists mainly of the peak 1

Using the correlation log k / log POW, the log POWof the major component of test itemAF‑317was calculated as 5.81 ± 0.004 (mean ± standard deviation).

*Peak 2 eluted later than DDT as the reference item with the highest log POW. Because the log POW of DDT is 6.2, the log POW of test item peak 2 is stated as > 6.2.

Variations in the retention times of reference items and test item are very small. Therefore, a stable configuration of the HPLC-column can be assumed.

The correlation log k/log POW is good: the coefficient of determination r2 was calculated with 0.9942. This value was considered as sufficiently high to use the calibration function for the determination of the log POW of the test item AF-317.

As peak 2 showed a relative area < 5 %, it was considered as minor peak. Although area is not necessarily correlated to absolute concentration if UV detection is used, it is as-sumed that the test item AF-317 consists mainly of the peak 1, indicating that the log POW should be regarded as 5.81 ± 0.004 (mean ± standard deviation).

No observations were made which might cause doubts concerning the validity of the study outcome.
