First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

- Skin Contact: Immediately flush affected area with copious amounts of water. Remove contaminated clothing immediately to prevent further skin absorption. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist.

- Eye Contact: Immediately flush eyes with water for at least 15 minutes, holding eyelids apart. Get medical attention if irritation or other symptoms exist.

- Inhalation: Remove from exposure, rest and keep warm. Give oxygen if respiration is shallow. If breathing has stopped, give artificial respiration. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist.

- Ingestion: Give water to drink but do not induce vomiting Do NOT induce vomiting. May cause irritation to the respiratory tract. GET MEDICAL ATTENTION.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

- Acute: Contact with eyes causes irritation. Contact with this material may cause skin irritation. May cause irritation to upper respiratory system Harmful by ingestion.

- Delayed Effects: None known.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

- Thermal Exposure: No evidence of carcinogenic effects.

- Note to Physician: No additional first aid information available.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

- Appropriate Extinguishing Media: Water spray, carbon dioxide, dry chemical. Alcohol foam.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

- Hazardous Products of Combustion: Oxides of Carbon Toxic fumes.

- Potential for Dust Explosion: Dusts at sufficient concentrations can form explosive mixtures with air.

- Special Flammability Hazards: Not applicable.

Advice for firefighters

- Basic Fire Fighting Guidance: As in any fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent) and full protective gear.

- Flammability Classification (OSHA): Not applicable.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

- Evacuation Procedures: Isolate the hazard area and deny entry to unnecessary and unprotected personnel.

- Special Instructions: Remove all contaminated clothing to prevent further absorption. Decontaminate affected personnel using the first aid procedures in Section 4. Leather shoes that have been saturated must be discarded.

Environmental precautions

- Prevent releases to soils, drains, sewers, and waterways.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

- Containment Techniques and Clean-up Procedures: Do not allow the spilled product to enter public drainage system or open waterways. Avoid generation of dust clouds during clean-up. Sweep up spills into appropriate containers for recovery or disposal Wash down spill site with water taking care to contain liquors.

- Special Reporting Requirements: Not applicable.

Refer to Exposure Controls / Personal Protection section for information on selecting personal protective equipment. Refer to Disposal Considerations section for information on spilled product, absorbent and clean up material disposal instructions.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

- Precautions for Unique Hazards: Not applicable.

- Practices to Minimize Risk: Wear appropriate protective equipment when performing maintenance on contaminated equipment. Wash hands thoroughly before eating or smoking after handling this material.

- Special Handling Equipment: Wash thoroughly after handling. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Wash thoroughly after handling.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

- Storage Precautions & Recommendations: Do not store in direct sunlight This product should be stored at ambient temperature in a dry, well-ventilated location.

- Dangerous Incompatibility Reactions: Oxidizing Agents.

- Incompatibilities with Materials of Construction: none known.

Specific end use(s)

- If a chemical safety assessment has been completed an exposure scenario is attached as an annex to this Safety Data Sheet.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control parameters

- Exposure Limits (United States): OSHA PEL: Not established, ACGIH TLV: Not established.

- Exposure Limits (UK): Not established.

Exposure controls

- Personal Protective Equipment: Impervious gloves, boots, and clothing, chemical goggles or face shield where necessary, and a NIOSH approved chemical cartridge respirator or supplied air breathing apparatus. PVC or nitrile gloves.

- Respirator Caution: Observe OSHA regulations for respirator use (29 CFR 1910.134). Air-purifying respirators must not be used in oxygen-deficient atmospheres.

- Ventilation: All operations should be conducted in well-ventilated conditions. Local exhaust ventilation should be provided.

- Other Engineering Controls: All appropriate engineering controls should be used to minimize exposure potential. Use exhaust ventilation to keep airborne concentrations below exposure limits.

- Thermal Hazards: Not applicable.

- Additive or Synergistic Effects: None known.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity: Not classified as dangerously reactive.

Chemical stability: Stable.

Possibility of hazardous reactions: Will not occur.

Conditions to avoid: Excessive heat Exposure to direct sunlight.

Incompatible materials: Oxidizing Agents.

Hazardous decomposition products: Decomposition products may include carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide.; Toxic gases.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

- US EPA Waste Number: Not applicable.

- Waste Classification: (per US regulations): Dispose of via a licensed waste disposal contractor in line with national and regional environmental regulations. NOTE: Generator is responsible for proper waste characterization. State (USA) hazardous waste regulations may differ substantially from federal (USA) regulations.

- Waste Disposal: Dispose of this material in accordance with standard practice for disposal of potentially hazardous materials as required by applicable international, national, regional, state or local laws. Do NOT dump into any sewers, on the ground, or into any body of water. For disposal within the EC, the appropriate code according to the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) should be used. Note that disposal regulations may also apply to empty containers and equipment rinsates.
