First-aid measures

CORROSIVE; HARMFUL IF INHALED; SKIN and RESPIRATORY SENSITISER.

> GENERAL ADVICE

- Remove the affected person from the danger zone to a well-ventilated room or to fresh air, and protect from chilling/undercooling.

- Do not administer anything by oral route and do not try to make vomit.

- If the victim is unconscious, place in the recovery position.

- Immediately call a poison center, doctor or physician. Show the SDS or the label.

> INHALATION

HARMFUL, CORROSIVE, RESPIRATORY SENSITIZER.

- Remove person to fresh air and keep comfortable for breathing.

- Rinse mouth and nose with water, and spit out. If not breathing give artificial respiration.

> SKIN

CORROSIVE, SKIN SENSITIZER

- Take off immediately all contaminated clothing.

- After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of soap and water

- Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.

- If delayed skin irritation or rash occurs: Get medical advice/attention.

> EYES

CORROSIVE.

- In the case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately cautiously with water for at least 30 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.

- Hold eyelids open. Do not allow water to flow into the uncontaminated eye.

- Call a physician immediately.

INGESTION

CORROSIVE.

- Call a physician immediately.

- If conscious, rinse mouth with water, and spit out. Do NOT induce vomiting. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed:

- May cause sensitization by inhalation and skin contact.

- May cause lacrimation, salivation, laboured breathing, nasal discharge, oedema.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable Extinguishing Media:

Dry chemical or carbon dioxide.

Special hazards arising from the substance:

Contact with water liberates toxic gas. (hydrogen chloride, CORROSIVE; carbon dioxide / carbon monoxide)

Advice for Fire Fighters:

Self-contained breathing apparatus, chemical-resistant skin and hand protection.

Water mist may be used to cool closed containers.

Accidental release measures

CORROSIVE; HARMFUL IF INHALED; SKIN and RESPIRATORY SENSITISER.

> Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

Advice for non-emergency personnel:

Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.

Evacuate personnel to safe areas.

Advice for emergency responders:

Avoid coming in contact with the substance or handling containers without adequate protection.

Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection and respirator with dust cartridge (see section 'Exposure controls/personal protection')

Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/ spray.

Eliminate all sources of ignition.

Avoid dust formation.

Wash carefully/shower after intervention, and wash contaminated clothing before reuse.

> Environmental Precautions:

Contain the spillage as far as possible. Do not let product enter drains or waterways.

In the case of leaks into a water course, drains, or if the product has contaminated the ground or vegetation, contact the local authorities.

Minimize dust generation.

> Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:

Do not use equipment that can generate sources of ignition when cleaning.

After collection, ventilate and clean the affected area with water before granting access.

Do not flush the water used for cleaning into watercourses or down drains.

Shovel material into a plastic lined waste container.

Do not reuse. Do not reintroduce into the original container. Label the container accordingly, and treat as waste.

Handling and storage

CORROSIVE; HARMFUL IF INHALED; SKIN and RESPIRATORY SENSITISER.

> Precautions for Safe Handling:

Avoid formation of dusts and vapors.

Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

Avoid breathing dust.

Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection and respirator with dust cartridge.

> General occupational hygiene:

Good personal washing routines should be followed.

Wash hands before breaks and after work.

When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

Take off contaminated clothing and wash it before reuse.

Contaminated work clothing should not be allowed out of the workplace.

> Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Eliminate all sources of combustion.

Store locked up.

Avoid contact with excess moisture.

Avoid the formation of dust.

Keep container closed, and in a cool and dry and well ventilated area.

Keep away from incompatible materials (see section 'Stability and reactivity').

Keep away from food, feed and beverages.

Specific end use:

Monomer for chemical synthesis.

Exposure controls / personal protection

> Control parameters:

Occupational Exposure Limit (OEL) values: Not Published

DNEL/PNEC: see IU Section 7 Head Chapter

SKIN and RESPIRATORY SENSITISER: Without prejudice to relevant national legislation, pre-employment screening and appropriate health surveillance.

> Exposure controls / Technical protection measures / Organisational protection measures:

Appropriate engineering control

Sensitizers - Without prejudice to relevant national legislation, pre-employment screening and appropriate health surveillance

Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.

Use engineering controls to minimize dusting.

Hand washing point and eyewash station recommended at the workplace.

Any measure to eliminate exposure should be considered

Control staff entry to work area

Regular cleaning of equipment and work area

Management/supervision in place to check that the RMMs in place are being used correctly and OCs followed

Training for staff on good practice;

Procedures and training for emergency decontamination and disposal;

Individual protection measures, such as personal protective equipment:

> Eye Protection:

CORROSIVE: Safety goggles with side shields (conforming EC EN 166, protection class 4 = against large dust particles).

> Skin and hand protection:

CORROSIVE: Keep material off skin as chemical irritation or burns can result. All skin and mucous membranes with potential exposure protected with appropriate PPE.

SKIN SENSITISER. Avoid product contact with skin.

Hand protection: Handle with chemical-resistant gloves (complying with EN 374). Latex, neoprene or nitrile recommended. Do NOT use PVC. Wash and dry hands after removing gloves.

> Body protection: Full skin coverage with appropriate barrier material; Chemical-resistant (Tyvek) suit in dusty areas.

> Respiratory Protection:

HARMFUL IF INHALED and RESPIRATORY SENSITIZER: Full face respirator with appropriate respirator (particulate filter, Type P3 (EN 143)). Breathing dust can cause respiratory distress.

> Environmental exposure controls:

Fulfil commitments under Community environmental protection legislation.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity:

No pyrophoric, self-reactive or self-heating properties anticipated.

Chemical Stability:

Stable under recommended storage conditions.

Decomposes before boiling from ca 200°C.

Possibility of Hazardous Reactions:

Reacts with water to release Hydrogen chloride / Hydrochloric acid: CORROSIVE.

Conditions to avoid:

Avoid moisture.

Avoid the formation of dust.

Incompatible materials:

Water, Strong oxidizing agents, Strong bases. Substances that can initiate polymerisation.

Hazardous decomposition products:

Hydrogen chloride vapoor. Carbon oxides (CO2, CO).

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods:

Unusable products, out of date, residues and contaminated packaging are considered as hazardous waste according to Directive 2008/98/EC (as modified by Regulation (EU) No 1357/2014).

Therefore, they must be disposed of according to local and national rules into force. Contact a licensed company.

Do not pour into drains or in the environment.

Do not re-use empty containers.

Other considerations:

Material that is mixed with water will form hydrochloric acid.
