Specific details on test material used for the study:
4-chloroformylphthalic anhydride
To melt the test item, the test item was placed in an oil bath at a temperature of approximately 70°C.
Key result
Auto-ignition temperature:
605 °C
Atm. press.:
>= 1 034.2 - <= 1 037.2 hPa

Preliminary test

The estimated auto-ignition temperature was 610°C (70 μL sample).

Main study

Test  Volume (µl)  Auto-ignition temperature (°C)  Ignition delay (s)  Colour of the flame  Minimum auto-ignition temperature (°C)
 1  50  611  5  yellow
   70  610  5  yellow  610
   150  619  4  orange
 2  25  616  4 yellow
   90  609  5  orange  609
   140  616  5  orange
 3  45  609  6  yellow
   80  607  3  yellow  607
   135  615  5  orange

The atmospheric pressure during the performance of the main study was between 1034.2 and 1037.3h Pa.

Ignition of the test item within 5 minutes after introduction was observed with each sample volume and with each test a minimum auto-ignition temperature was obtained. The maximum deviation between the three values was < 20°C. According to the guidelines, no further testing was required.

The lowest temperature at which ignition of the test item occurred was 607°C with 80µl of test item. This temperature was rounded down to the nearest multiple of 5°C giving an auto-ignition temperature of the test item of 605°C.

Conclusions:
The auto-ignition temperature of the test item is 605°C at 1034.2 to 1037.3 hPa.
Executive summary:

The auto-ignition temperature was determined according to recognized guidelines (EU A.15, DIN 51794 and IEC 79-4) and under GLP.

No deviation from the guidelines was observed during the test.

The behaviour of the test item was estimated in a preliminary test. Then a main study, consisting of 3 test series was performed, and the minimum value was retained.

The auto-ignition temperature of the test item is 605°C at 1034.2 to 1037.3 hPa.

Description of key information

Additional information

The auto-ignition temperature was determined according to recognized guidelines (EU A.15, DIN 51794 and IEC 79-4) and under GLP.

No deviation from the guidelines was observed during the test.
