Description of key information

Phenyl salicylate was reported to be teratogenic in rats at an unspecified exposure level. We have been unable to

locate references on possible human reproductive or lactation effects of this compound.

Justification for classification or non-classification

There is some evidence from experimental animals of an adverse effect on sexual function and fertility, or on development, and this evidence is not sufficiently convincing to place the substance in Category 1. Therefore, Category 2 is the more appropriate classification for this substance.
