Description of key information

Skin irritation

In the safety data sheet of the U.S. Pharmacopeial convention the substance, identified as Salicylic acid phenyl ester, is classified (according to GHS) as Skin corrosion/irritation Category 2. In section 11, only generic information is reported: "Causes skin irritation". By the use of QSAR Toolbox the structural alert for skin irritation/corrosion "Phenols" has been identified; therefore, an assessment with toxtree has been performed and the substance as resulted as "irritating or corrosive to skin".

Overall, available information are deemed sufficient to classify the substance as skin irritant 2, H315.

Eye irritation

In the safety data sheet of the U.S. Pharmacopeial convention the substance, identified as Salicylic acid phenyl ester, is classified (according to GHS) as serious eye damage/eye irritation Category 2A. In section 11, only generic information is reported: " Causes serious eye irritation.". Overall, available information is inconclusive for the classification of the substance as eye irritant.
