Description of key information

In a GLP study according to 84/449/EEC method A.14, TCD-emulsifier was found to be non-explosive.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

The explosiveness of TCD-emulsifier was tested in a GLP study according to 84/449/EEC method A.14. The test substance (powder) was tested for thermal sensitivity and mechanical sensitivity (shock and friction). None of the tests conducted were positive. No explosions occurred. The substance is not sensitive to heating, shock or friction. Therefore, TCD-emulsifier is not classified as explosive according to Directive 84/449/EEC.

Justification for classification or non-classification

None of the tests conducted (thermal and mechanical sensitivity) were positive. No explosions occurred. The substance is not sensitive to heating, shock or friction. Therefore, TCD-emulsifier is not classified as explosive according to Directive 84/449/EEC.

Furthermore, the oxygen balance of TCD-emulsifier can be calculated at –215.6. Therefore, the criterion of Regulation (EU) No 1272/2008, Annex I, chapter 2.1.4.3 (b), for not classifying the substance as explosive (oxygen balance < –200) is fulfilled.
