Description of key information

This end-point study is waived, as the study is scientifically unjustified. Dissociation is defined as being the reversible splitting into two or more ionic chemical species (OECD guideline 112). MMVF note Q fibres are inorganic mineral fibres which is slightly water soluble through non-reversible leaching of inorganic chemical species into water.

MMVF note Q fibres are inorganic mineral fibres which are slightly water soluble through non-reversible leaching of inorganic chemical species. The species dissolved in water are ionic. They are not able to recombine into the original non-dissociated glass state.

It is noted that Kdis (the dissolution constant) reported in this dossier in connection to the toxicological assessment of the MMVF note Q fibres is a parameter used to determine the ability of the fibres to break down (dissolve) into smaller fragments in the human body, which should be considered as separate data.
