Description of key information

Based on the results of this study, the test item Reaction product of oleyl alcohol with polyphosphoric acid had no toxic effect at aquatic saturation (i.e. 100% v/v saturated solution, equivalent to 100 mg/L nominal concentration) on Zebrafish. The 96 h-NOEC value was determined as the saturation concentration and the LOEC and the EC50 values were determined to be higher than saturation.

Additional information

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the acute toxicity of the test item Reaction product of oleyl alcohol with polyphosphoric acid on Zebrafish (Brachydanio rerio). A limit test was performed in which the test animals were exposed to aqueous test media containing the test item at the limit of its solubility level in the test medium (i.e. saturation) for 96 hours in order to demonstrate that the test item is not toxic to Zebrafish up to at least the saturation concentration.

The test method of application and the test species Zebrafish (Brachydanio rerio)are recommended by the test guidelines.

Based on the results of the preliminary test, a single test concentration at saturation (i.e. 100 % v/v saturated solution corresponding to 100 mg/L nominal concentration) and one control group were tested in a limit test.

The quantification of the test item was performed by a previously validated analytical method by the analytical laboratory of TOXI-COOP ZRT. Samples were taken from the test concentration and the control at the start and at the end of the test and analysed by LC/MS method.

Concentration of the test item was below the analytical quantification limit (LOQ) at the start and at the end of the test.

Mortality and any sub-lethal effects were not observed during the 96-h exposure period either in the treated or in the control group. Accordingly, the 96-h NOEC was determined as the saturation concentration (i.e. 100% v/v saturated solution, equivalent to 100 mg/L nominal concentration) and the LOEC and the EC50values were determined to be higher than saturation.

The influence of the test item Reaction product of oleyl alcohol with polyphosphoric acid on zebrafish are summarised below in Table 1.
