Description of key information

The study by Zimnicki and Yu (1979) determined the stability of 2,4,6-tribromophenol in aqueous solution. Photolysis was conducted using radiolabelled test compound on a TLC plate under UV light. The results were considered reliable and adequate for assessing the stability of the test material in water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life in water:
11.5 h

Additional information

Reference: Zimnicki, L.S. and Yu, C.C. (1979)

Reliability: 2

Result: The test material had a half life of 11.5 hours in water. DT50 ca. 1 h (first phase). 27% degradation was achieved within 48 hours. Only the 6th transformation product of the test material was identified, 3,5-dibromo-1,2-dihydroxybenzene.
