Prior to the addition of the test substance to the water, an aqueous solution of 1 % monoammonium phosphate solution, and a 0.01 M potassium permanganate solution or the addition of the iron powder to the test substance, the test substance was observed and a description of the test substance was recorded. The test substance was described as a brown, rubbery, shiny, clear, sticky solid.

The average temperature of the water used was 26.8 degrees Centigrade prior to the addition of test substance to each sample. The average temperature of the samples after addition of the test substance was 27.7 degrees Centigrade. After approximately 24 hours of storage under ambient conditions, the average temperature of the samples was 26.2 degrees Centigrade. No reaction was observed immediately after mixing. After approximately 24 hours of storage, the test substance was a flat, opaque, pale pink colour on the edges/surfaces and the chunks were melded together.

The average temperature of the 1 % monoammonium phosphate solution used was 26.7 degrees Centigrade prior to the addition of test substance to each sample. The average temperature of the samples after addition of the test substance was 27.8 degrees Centigrade. After approximately 24 hours of storage under ambient conditions, the average temperature of the samples was 27.0 degrees Centigrade. No reaction was observed immediately after mixing. After approximately 24 hours of storage, the test substance was a flat, opaque, pink colour on the edges/surfaces and the chunks were melded together.

The average temperature of the 0.01 M potassium permanganate solution used was 26.9 degrees Centigrade prior to the addition of test substance to each sample. The average temperature of the samples after addition of the test substance was 28.1 degrees Centigrade. After approximately 24 hours of storage under ambient conditions, the average temperature of the samples was 26.3 degrees Centigrade. No reaction was observed immediately after mixing. After approximately 24 hours of storage, the test substance was a flat, opaque, yellow on the edges and the chunks were melded together.

No reaction was observed in any of the samples containing a mixture of the test substance and iron powder immediately following mixing and after approximately 24 hours of storage under ambient conditions.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
No reaction was observed between the test substance and the four reactants (water, 1 % monoammonium phosphate solution, 0.01 M potassium permanganate solution, and iron powder) upon mixing. Although no significant change in temperature was recorded, the test substance showed visual signs of reaction with three of the four reactants (water, 1 % monoammonium phosphate solution, and 0.01 M potassium permanganate solution) after approximately 24 hours under ambient conditions. No reaction was observed between the test substance and iron powder after approximately 24 hours under ambient conditions. No chemical incompatibility was observed under the test conditions.
