Preliminary test

An approximate value of the ignition temperature of the test item was first determined by a preliminary test. Table 1 gives the results of the preliminary test. An ignition is denoted as “+” and no ignition is denoted as “-“. 5 drops were put into the Erlenmeyer flask at each temperature. In the preliminary test, the lowest temperature at which an ignition occured was 404 °C.

Main test

The lowest temperatures at which an ignition occured in the main test are given in Table 2. Based on results of the main test series, the lowest auto-ignition temperature was 375 °C.

The test item has an auto-ignition temperature of 375 °C according to the Regulation EC No. 440/2008 Method A.15. Auto-Ignition Temperature (Liquids and Gases) and DIN 51794 (2003): Determination of Ignition Temperature. It is noted here that according to ECHA guidance – Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment: chapter R.7A: Endpoint specific guidance, October 2015 – the auto-ignition temperature for liquids is not used directly for classification and labeling according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008. However, it can be used in the chemical safety assessment in considering risks associated with processing the substance. According to DIN EN 13463-1 the test item has to be assigned to temperature class T2.

Conclusions:
The auto-ignition temperature of the test item was 375 °C.
Executive summary:

The auto-ignition temperature of the test item was determined according to EC Method A.15. Based on results of the main test series, the lowest auto-ignition temperature was 375 °C.
