Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
Because the test item seems to be susceptible to hydrolysis (preliminary test) the test design differs from the Guideline. Instead of solving for 24, 48 and 72 hours at 30 °C, the period of testing was shortened and the temperature reduced.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
Because the test item seems to be susceptible to hydrolysis (preliminary test) the test design differs from the Guideline. Instead of solving for 24, 48 and 72 hours at 30 °C, the period of testing was shortened and the temperature reduced.

EPA OPPTS 830.7840 (Water Solubility)
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:

Principles of method if other than guideline:
In a preliminary test, the water solubility of the test item was found to be > 10-2 g/L (approximately 7 g/L). Therefore the flask method was chosen for the determination of the water solubility.
For the main test, a quantity of the test item necessary for saturation is dissolved in demineralized water. The vessels are stoppered and stirred on a magnetic stirrer for 6 h, 14 h and 24 h at 20 °C in a temperature controlled water bath. After phase separation by filtration with a disposable syringe filter and/or centrifugation, the concentration of the test item in the aqueous test solutions is determined by HPLC-analysis with UV-detection.
GLP compliance:

Details on results:
The relative standard deviation between the single determinations is < 15 %.
The validity criteria have therefore been met.

Test item concentrations

Flask A [mg]  Flask B [mg]  Flask C [mg]
 Initial weight in mg  3505.7  3501.2  3508.2
Volume of water in mL  100  100  100

In a preliminary test the concentration found was 7.03 g/L. Therefore the concentration for the main test was set to 35 g/L. This corresponds to 5 times the concentration found in the pretest.

Conclusions:
Water solubility of the test item Resorcindiacetat at 20 °C is 7.4 g/L.
Executive summary:

The water solubility of the test item Resorcindiacetat in demineralized water was determined with the shake flask method at 20 °C according to OECD 105. The concentration of the test item in the aqueous test solutions was determined by HPLC analysis with UV detection. Water solubility of Resorcindiacetat at 20 °C is 7.4 g/L. The relative standard deviation between the single determinations is < 15 %. The validity criteria have therefore been met.
