Description of key information

No flash was observed for PPVE in the ASTM method D-3278, the Abel-Pensky method, or the ASTM D93-02 method.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The flash point of PPVE was evaluated using a weight of evidence approach. It was tested using a closed-cup method under ASTM method D-3278. No flash was observed from -17 °F to 95 °F (-27 °C to 35 °C). The study was not GLP compliant; therefore the study is considered reliable with restrictions. In another study, the flash point of PPVE was tested using a closed-cup method under DIN 51 755 (Abel-Pensky) with both a small flame setup and glowing wire ignition. No visual flash was observed using either ignition source. The study was not GLP compliant, and the temperature range of the test was not recorded. Therefore the study is considered reliable with restrictions. A third flash point test was conducted according to closed-cup method ASTM D93-02. Ignition attempts were made using a propane/air ignition source in accordance with the test procedure. No flash point was detected by visual observation. Three additional studies showing a flashpoint were available, but were not considered reliable for technical reasons.  They are not considered further.
