Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

PPVE is considered non flammable but may form explosive air-vapor mixtures (method equivalent to EU method A.11) with a lower explosion limit of 1.1% and an upper explosion limit of 47%.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

PPVE is considered non flammable as it does not flash. In the key study, measurements of the explosion properties of test substance vapor/air mixtures were performed at 25° C and 1 atmosphere. The air-free test substance vapor was not sensitive to hot wire ignition, whereas all test substance vapor/air mixtures exhibited some reactivity on exposure to a hot wire. The range from 1.1% to 47% was considered explosive based on extrapolations of pressure curves with consideration of pressure rate values. In a supporting study, the upper and lower explosion limits of PPVE vapors were determined in accordance with an accepted method (DIN 51 649) but without GLP compliance; therefore the study is considered reliable with restrictions. An explosion range of 1.3% to > 25 % was reported. At 25%, the test substance vapor suppressed spark formation. One other flammability result was available but because methodology and details are not available, the reliability of the data is not assignable. PPVE is considered non flammable; however, it may form explosive air-vapor mixtures.
