Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

LC50 (14d) > 1000 mg/kg for Eisenia fetida (OECD 207, read across to Dibutyl adipate CAS 105-99-7)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No study on the toxicity of Diisopropyl adipate (CAS 6938-94-9) to earthworm is available. Therefore, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 Grouping of substances, a read-across to the structurally related category member Dibutyl adipate (CAS 105-99-7) was conducted. Further justification is given within the endpoint summary 6.1 and within the category justification section 13. In this case of read-across, the best suited (highest degree of structural similarity, nearest physico-chemical properties) read-across substance within this category was used.

The study conducted with Dibutyl adipate (CAS 105-99-7) was performed as a limit test according to OECD guideline 207 and GLP (Moser, 2013). The test organism Eisenia fetida was exposed to the test substance in artificial soil for 14 days, at the nominal test concentration 1000 mg/kg. No mortality occurred during the test period. Hence, Dibutyl adipate (CAS 105-99-7) is not expected to have effects on soil macroorganisms.

Due to the structural and property similarities with the tested category member Dibutyl adipate (CAS 105-99-7), this result is also applicable to read across to Diisopropyl adipate (CAS 6938-94-9).

Further, studies on the short term toxicity to earthworm, available for the category PFAE linear, support the assumption of expected negligible effects to terrestrial organisms with LC50 values for earthworm well above 100 mg/kg soil dw (i.e. LC50 (14d) 865 and 1000 mg/kg for Bis(ethylhexyl) adipate CAS 103-23-1 and Bis(tridecyl) adipate CAS 16958-92-2, respectively)
