A preliminary hydrolysis study on 1,3-dioxolane was conducted according to OECD 111 at 51°C and at pH 4, 7 and 9 under sterile conditions in the dark. Duplicate samples were analysed by GC-FID at the start (day 0) and at termination (day 5) of the test. From the results it can be concluded that 1,3-dioxolane is hydrolytically stable at pH 4, 7 and 9, when maintained at 51°C (2.1%, 0.9% and 1.2% degradation respectively); estimated half-life at pH 4, 7 and 9 and 25°C is greater than 1 year.
