Description of key information

No data available. Considering all relevant information available, long-term toxicity for fish is not expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No long-term fish studies are available for 2-amino-2-ethyl-1,3-propanediol (AEPD). Short-term studies available for fish, daphnia and algae, all indicate a low potential for aquatic toxicity, with LC/EC50 values between 460 and 668 mg/L. Furthermore, the substance is not expected to remain in the aquatic environment, since it is rapidly biodegradable. Bioaccumulation is unlikely, due to the low log Kow value. Additionally, long-term NOECs of 3.99 mg/L and 31.3 mg/L have been determined for Dapnia magna and Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, respectively. Based on this information and for reasons of animal welfare, long-term testing on fish is not proposed.
