Data used to evaluate the physical and chemical properties are on different salt forms of Malachite Green (MG): read across between chloride, oxalate and acetate salt forms of MG present the same main component and have a different counter ion that doesn't influence the characteristics related to the specific end-point.

Malachite Green Acetate (MGA) is a green solid crystal with a metallic lustre, more often used in liquid form. DSC test recorded a melting point at 140 °C and a reaction of decomposition at 165 °C, thus it decomposes before boiling (R&C, 2016).

Particle size distribution showed that MGA is characterized by particle too large to pass in bronchi and lungs (R&C, 2016).

The affinity of MGA with the n-octanol phase is low, demonstrated by LogKow of 0.9 (R&C, 2016)

MGA is very soluble in water and the dissociation constant (pKa) showed that MG is 100% ionised at pH 4.0, 50 % at pH 6.9, 25 % at 7.4 and 0 % at pH 10.1

MG does not ignite and propagate combustion; no chemical groups associated with oxidising properties are present in the molecule. Explosiveness test shows that substance has no impact sensitivity and an exothermic reaction occurs with onset at 153°C. Regarding dust explosive risk, it only occurs in concentrations (100 g/m³) which are not relevant for handling in the dye facilities; these concentrations are only relevant for spray drying.

MGA does not meet the criteria to be considered as flammable/explosive/oxidising.
