Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The inhibition of biogas production from anaerobic digestion of sludge was measured in the presence of Reactive Red 198. The test was carried out at concentrations of 100, 400, 700, and 1000 mg/L test material. The anaerobic biogas generation is detected by the determination of pressure in the individual approach. The inhibition of gas formation in the presence of the test material is compared with untreated controls as a measure of the toxic effect of the sample to the bacteria.

The following inhibition was measured at the respective test substance concentrations:

Concentration [mg/L] inhibition [%]
1000 23
700 19
400 13
100 3

The EC50 of Reactive Red 198 for the inhibition of anaerobic organisms of activated sludge is more than 1000 mg/L
