Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Stability in organic solvents is demonstrated for p-menthane hydroperoxide that is marketed as a 55% solution in an organic solvent (p-menthane). With storage at a temperature below 25° C the peroxide content stated in the sales specifications will be unchanged 3 months after dispatch.

Additional information

Paramenthane hydroperoxide is relatively stable in the neutral and alkaline state at room  temperature. Only if the storage time is relatively long (> 3 month) or temperatures are relatively high the peroxide content is reduced perceptibly. Decomposition of paramenthane hydroperoxide can be initiated even at low temperatures by copper or lead or their alloys. Contact with mineral acids, formic acid, organic sulphonic acids, strongly acidic ion exchangers, oxydation catalysts, reducing agents and Friedel-Crafts catalysts produces violent decomposition.
